Bob McKinney, who is tied for 6th in the AP with a 2.50 ERA, never let the Mashers get in a groove. The right-hander used his bread and butter, his changeup, to pitch the Monuments to a win, 3-1. César Domínguez closed it out for Washington, earning his 13th save. The win puts Washington at 23-11 this season.

With scoring opportunities rare, the Monuments had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the bottom of the fourth, when right fielder Rodrigo Carrillo hit a run-scoring single. The single came off Erik Courtney and made the score 2-1, Monuments. Carrillo was 1 for 3 with a walk.

Carrillo called the win a test of his team's "mettle."
