Chicken Haulers Grind Out 2-1 Win
|
The Amarillo Chicken Haulers beat the Philadelphia Cheesesteaks, 2-1, at The Chicken Coop. Starting pitcher Tim Reynolds was a big reason why. He held his opponent in check all game. Reynolds, now 2-2, was the winner. In 5 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 7, walking 1, and allowing 1 run. Morgan Banks, who finished 3rd in the AP in ERA with 2.57 in 2072, nailed down the save.
Bill Foley drove in one run for Amarillo. The 27-year old right fielder had a key at-bat in the bottom of the fifth. With no one out and runners on 2nd and 3rd, he broke a 1-1 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Richard Carpenter. It was his 11th RBI of the season.
"Tim gets on the mound and he competes and that's what you want," said Amarillo manager James Walker.
Amarillo is 16-19 and Philadelphia, with the loss, 21-14.
