The Minneapolis Maulers, behind a great outing from Kunitaro Watanabe, who finished 5th in the AP in ERA with 3.08 last year, defeated the Vermont Lake Monsters, 3-0, at Welsh Field. The Maulers now have a record of 18-21 with the win over Vermont.
Bart Matthews, who is tied for 10th in the AP with a .327 batting average, had a direct impact on the outcome. Matthews contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the second inning to put Minneapolis up, 1-0.
