Aces Sneak By Storm, 2-1
|
In a low-scoring tilt between the Atlantic City Aces and the West Island Storm, Andrew Fitzgerald, who finished 3rd in the AP in strikeouts with 251 last year, was the difference-maker. The Atlantic City left-hander spearheaded the 2-1 win. Atlantic City reliever Juan Calhoun picked up the win, while Paul Dawson took the loss for West Island . Joaquín Moreno was credited with the save for Atlantic City, his 24th of the season.
The game was at a stalemate until shortstop Ed Kidd came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing West Island pitcher António Olivo, he hit a full count fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Atlantic City on top, 2-1.
"I'm just looking for a good pitch that I can hit well," said Kidd. "And not try to do too much."
The Aces lead the Appalachian Coastal by 2 games.
