Comrades Beat Philadelphia, 2-1
|
Philadelphia pitcher Ken Barnett gave the Comrades all they could handle, but in the end, Havana left William Penn Park with a win, 2-1. Barnett allowed 1 run on 5 hits over 8 innings. The win was credited to 33-year old right-handed pitcher Joe Lowe in relief. His record improves to 6-1. Leonard Johnston took the loss. Richard Carpenter recorded the save. In save chances, he's now 17 for 21.
Havana used the timely hitting of Christian Dyer to seize the win. The second baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Comrades on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"If you ever get this game figured out," said Philadelphia manager Joey Santangelo, "let me know."
The defeat makes Philadelphia 44-32.
