Monuments Pull Off Thrilling 4-3 Win in Extras
|
The Washington Monuments had to overcome a fine effort from Minneapolis pitcher Alberto Pérez to grab a narrow 4-3 win at MacLaren Stadium. Pérez went 8 innings and allowed 3 runs. Matt Burkett got credit for the win, improving to 1-0. He allowed no runs on 1 hit in 4 innings. Kunitaro Watanabe, credited with the save, is now 3 for 3 in save opportunities.
Washington used the timely hitting of Bill Antúnez to seize the win. The third baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the 16th inning to put the Monuments on top, 4-3. It was his only hit in 2 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"Good win for us, tough loss for them," said Antúnez.
The second-place Maulers have lost 5 consecutive games.
