Rum Runners Roll Over Aces, 10-3
|
The first-place Orlando Rum Runners took on the Atlantic City Aces in front of a spirited crowd.
In the 10-3 Orlando win over Atlantic City, the impact of Mike Allen was substantial. Allen, who is tied for 3rd in the AP in RBI with 55, was 2 for 3 with a home run, a walk, and was hit by a pitch, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. Bartolo Salazar, the winner, improved to 5-6. He held the Aces to 2 runs on 4 hits over 5.2 innings, while striking out 5 and walking 2.
The Rum Runners got a big at-bat from catcher Dennis Cross. For the game, Cross went 1-4 with a home run, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the fifth, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 3-run home run. His 3rd home run of the season gave Orlando a 3-1 lead.
"We put it together today and came out with the win," Cross said in postgame remarks. "That's the main thing."
The Rum Runners lead the Appalachian Southern by 5 games.
