Reading pitcher José Méndez had a large part in his team subduing the Iowa Crop Circles, 3-1. The opposition could never mount much of a rally against the right-hander. Héctor Rodríguez was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 10 of 12 save opportunities. The first-place Railbirds have won 4 consecutive games.
In the bottom of the first inning, the Railbirds grabbed the lead when Jorge Flores rapped a two-out single. Reading was trailing 1-0, when Flores hit a 2-run single off Clyde Barfoot to put his team in front, 2-1.
"When you are able to locate the ball, good things are going to happen," said Méndez.
