Thomas Shines in 6-5 San Jose Win
The San Jose Cuervo knocked off the Iowa Crop Circles, 6-5, at The Cornfield. Derrick Thomas was a big reason San Jose won. The first baseman went 3-4 with a home run, a double, and a walk, while scoring 3 times and driving in 2. Reliever Jim Hines picked up the win. His record improves to 4-2. James Stephens took the loss. Iván Ruíz earned the save, his 22nd in 23 tries.

San Jose used a timely hit from Jeremy Black to get the win. The pinch hitter stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the seventh inning to put the Cuervo ahead, 6-5. It was his only hit in 2 at-bats, but it made an impact.

"I like our moxie," said Cuervo manager .

With the win, San Jose raised its record to 54-37.
