Amézaga Swings for the Cycle
Mario Amézaga did everything he could for the Glacier Bay Ice Pirates -- literally.

The 33-year-old shortstop hit a single, a double, a triple and a home run for the Ice Pirates, going for the cycle and helping them get past the Alcatraz Island Jail Break, 10-2, at The Rock.

"Yeah, I was some kind of hitter in this game," Amézaga reflected later. "It was like all I had to do was close my eyes and swing the bat."

In a game headed for the record books, Amézaga banged out 4 hits in 5 at-bats and totaled 2 runs batted in and 1 run scored. Speaking with the press about the feat, he attributed it to "a lot of luck."

"A triple is so hard to hit," he said. "To just decide to get one in a game when you need it for a cycle, it's impossible. Usually something weird has to happen, the ball kicking past an outfielder or somebody falling down. There's a ton of luck in hitting for a cycle."

Mario Amézaga grounded out in the 1st, doubled in the 3rd, hit a solo-shot off Hsin-pei Gui in the 5th, singled in the 6th and hit an RBI triple in the 8th.

Amézaga currently has a .338 batting average with 110 hits, 16 homers, 61 RBIs, 69 runs scored and a .431 OBP.
