Newark Defeated By Lake Monsters, 5-3
|
Vermont pitcher Ernest Reese had a large part in his team beating the Newark Falcons, 5-3. The right-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. Reese, the winner, moves to 6-7. He threw 5.1 innings of 2-hit ball, while fanning 6 and giving up 4 walks. The loss makes Newark 49-48.
Vermont shortstop Joe Charles contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the sixth. With two down, he hit a sinker to left field for a run-scoring single. It was his 16th hit of the season and put the Lake Monsters ahead, 4-2.
"Ernest is tough to beat when he's hitting his spots," said Vermont manager Kevin Tucker.
