With designated hitter Norberto Chávez leading the charge, the St. Paul Bearers defeated the Laredo Border Jumpers, 7-1, at Casket County Stadium. Chávez, who is the 3rd-best prospect in the Bearers organization, was 3-5 with a home run and a double. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. Forrest McDonald, the winning pitcher, is now 3-2. He went 5.1 innings, allowing 1 run on 8 hits, while fanning 7 and walking 2. The 4th-place Bearers have won 6 straight.

The Bearers got an important contribution from third baseman Minoru Kobayashi, who in the bottom of the fourth punched a 1-2 curveball into left for a 2-run double. It was his 21st double of the season and put the Bearers ahead, 4-1.

"The vibe's good," said St. Paul manager Mitchell Slacko. "We've got to keep it going."
