The Reading Railbirds had to overcome a fine effort from Boston pitcher Greg Payne to grab a narrow 5-3 win at Jackie Robinson Place. Payne went 9 innings and allowed 2 runs. The win belongs to José Méndez in relief. His record improves to 5-4. Ed Leibnitz took the loss for Boston. Russ Lynch, credited with the save, is now 6 for 6 in save opportunities.

Reading used a clutch hit from Sherman Parks to get the win. The pinch hitter drilled a 3-run home run in the top of the tenth inning to put the Railbirds ahead, 5-2. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.

"Always feels extra good winning this kind of game," said Parks.

Reading now has a 3-game win streak.
