The Philadelphia Cheesesteaks beat the Reading Railbirds, 7-5, at Schuylkill Landing Park. Dennis González, in particular, was impressive. He was 4-4 with 4 singles, while scoring 3. Ken Barnett picked up the win, lifting his record to 7-8 on the season. He struck out 6 and walked 1 in 6.2 innings, while yielding 3 runs. Leonard Johnston was credited with the save, his 7th in 9 tries.

In the bottom of the ninth, Harvey Gregg stood in the box, looking for a pitch to hammer. The Railbirds were trailing 7-5, but had runners on 1st and 2nd. That's when Leonard Johnston made a terrific pitch and Gregg struck out. Gone was the dream of a Reading comeback.

With the win, Philadelphia raised its record to 58-43.
