Border Jumpers Sneak By Cheesesteaks, 2-1
|
The Philadelphia Cheesesteaks wasted an inspired, 6.2-inning effort from starter Tony Villamán, falling 2-1 to the Laredo Border Jumpers at William Penn Park. Peyton Jones picked up the win with 7 innings of work. He allowed 1 run on 7 hits, while walking 0 and striking out 5. On the season, he is now 1-0. Andrew Dougherty locked down his 2nd save.
Laredo used the timely hitting of Walt Hannah to seize the win. The pinch hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Border Jumpers on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
"This was a tough loss," said Philadelphia manager Joey Santangelo. "It'll stick in my craw for a while."
The win gives Laredo a record of 6-3.
