Crop Circles Fall Short, 2-1, at Vermont
|
John Hill pitched a gem to lead Vermont to victory over the Iowa Crop Circles, 2-1. The winning pitcher was Hill, now 6-7. He tossed 6.2 innings of 4-hit ball, while walking 2 and fanning 5. Chris Thomas finished to wrap up his 22nd save.
Ronnie Yan had a big run-scoring triple for the Lake Monsters in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Vermont leading 1-0 and a runner on 1st, he got a forkball from Luis Santiago Jr., who is tied for 5th in the FR in quality starts with 13, and swatted a triple to right. It was his 6th triple of the season, and more importantly, it put the Lake Monsters ahead, 2-0.
In postgame remarks, Yan hailed his team's "mettle."
The Lake Monsters, at 47-58, sit in 4th place in the Appalachian Northern.
