Losing Streak Continues for Coyotes with 5-4 Loss to Burn
|
The inspired effort of Keg Creek center fielder José Velásquez was not enough to prevent a loss, 5-4, to the Death Valley Burn. Velásquez went 3 for 5 with a home run and a double, while scoring 3 times. John Gates, credited with the save, is now 32 for 33 in save opportunities. The third-place Coyotes have lost 9 consecutive games.
In the bottom of the sixth, Death Valley shortstop Benjamin Hartley put his team on top. With two out and runners on 1st and 3rd, he hit his 18th double of the year. Keg Creek pitcher Andy Thomas served it up. Just like that, the Burn were ahead, 4-3.
"It's still just a game," said Hartley, "whether you win or lose."
