Iowa got a first-rate effort from pitcher Ricardo Cardenas, who frustrated Reading hitters en route to a 1-0 Crop Circles triumph at The Cornfield. Cardenas got the win, improving to 2-3. He allowed 4 hits and walked 2 over 8 innings. Cardenas allowed no runs. Ted Morgan recorded the save for Iowa, his 4th of the season.
Iowa took a 1-0 lead on James Brown's 1st home run of the season. The solo home run came off Reading pitcher Martín Burgos in the bottom of the eighth.
"You come to the ballpark to do your job and that's what I did today," Brown told the Iowa Gazette.
The last-place Crop Circles sport a record of 48-61.
