Cheesesteaks Prevail, 3-1, Over Alcatraz Island
|
The Philadelphia Cheesesteaks got a magnificent effort from pitcher Mike Wolf, who kept Alcatraz Island hitters in check en route to a 3-1 Cheesesteaks win at William Penn Park. Vincent Dickey, 6-7, earned the win in relief. He allowed 1 run on 3 hits in 2 innings. With the victory, the Cheesesteaks record now stands at 50-58.
The game was at a stalemate until designated hitter Allan Schneider came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Alcatraz Island pitcher Arthur Peet, he hit a full count fastball for a 2-run single. It was a game-changer, putting Philadelphia on top, 3-1.
"For the most part, I stayed out of the middle of the plate," Wolf said.
