The Vermont Lake Monsters earned a win at Welsh Field, stopping the Newark Falcons, 4-2. Starting pitcher Carlos Delgado played a big role in his team's success. The winning pitcher was Delgado, now 7-5. He tossed 7 innings of 1-hit ball, while walking 3 and fanning 6. The Lake Monsters, at 72-37, have a comfortable 15½-game lead in their division.

The Lake Monsters got a big at-bat from center fielder Joe Charles. For the game, Charles went 1 for 3 with a double. In the bottom of the fifth, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a run-scoring double. His 7th double of the season gave Vermont a 1-0 lead.

"It takes a lot of things to win a ballgame," said Vermont manager Kevin Tucker. "It's usually not just one thing."
