Starting pitcher Leo Porter held up his part of the bargain, helping the Newark Falcons stymie the Minneapolis Maulers, 6-2. Ted Bigham was credited with the save, his 35th in 36 tries. The win gives Newark a season record of 60-58.

Juan Martínez dealt the Maulers a blow in the bottom of the fifth. Batting with the bases loaded and Newark leading 3-0, Martínez hit a 2-2 cutter for a 2-run single.

"The hot tub feels extra good after a solid win," said Porter.
