Lake Monsters Earn 2-1 Home Win
|
Starting pitcher Pedro Burgos gave the Vermont Lake Monsters a rock-solid performance, helping his team defeat the Orlando Rum Runners, 2-1, at Welsh Field. Burgos got the win, improving to 8-6. He gave up 2 hits and walked 2 over 6.1 innings. He allowed 1 run. Jim Arnold, who is tied for 5th in the AP in saves with 26, earned the save for Vermont.
Ernesto Mercado drove in one run for Vermont. The former first round draft pick had a key at-bat in the bottom of the fourth. With one out and runners on 1st and 3rd, he broke a 1-1 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Jerry Daniels. It was his 43rd RBI of the season.
"I tell our guys all the time, 'Every pitch is the right pitch if you put it in the right place, you believe in it and have conviction,'" Vermont manager Kevin Tucker said.
The win puts Vermont at 49-73.
