Eduardo Cortéz could take little solace in pitching a good game. The fact is his Boston Revolution lost, dropping a 2-1 decision to the Mexico City Diablos at Jackie Robinson Place. Donald Hogan was the winning pitcher. Over 7.1 innings, he allowed 1 run on 6 hits, with 2 walks and 3 strikeouts. I-tsing Kui converted his 27th save in 30 tries.
Mexico City needed the clutch hitting of Alan Waters to notch the win. The second baseman hammered a 2-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to put the Diablos on top, 2-0. For the game, Waters had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
Afterward, Diablos manager Jon McDaniels was ebullient. "That was a fun game to coach," he told a group of reporters, adding, "I hope it was just as fun to watch."
Mexico City now owns a record of 52-72.
