Ice Pirates Tag Bearers with 7-1 Loss
|
The Glacier Bay Ice Pirates topped the St. Paul Bearers, 7-1, in Frontier action at Liquor Luge. The standout performance belonged to Glacier Bay pitcher and Lochmoor Waterway Estates, Florida, native Lee Barnard. Glacier Bay reliever Lee Barnard got the win, raising his record to 7-5. Roberto Delgado was tagged with the loss. Glacier Bay is now 81-43, 12½ games up in the Frontier Coastal.
Manuel Vega had a big 2-run double for the Ice Pirates in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Glacier Bay leading 3-1 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a fastball from Martin Tucker, who is tied for 2nd in the FR in bases on balls with 81, and swatted a double to right-center. It was his 22nd double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Ice Pirates ahead, 5-1.
"This game will punch you right in the mouth," said Barnard. "My job is to show up and give my team a chance."
