Vermont registered a win at Welsh Field by beating the Orlando Rum Runners, 4-3. Pitcher Jack Coles was one reason why the Lake Monsters triumphed. Coles, the winner, moves to 2-2. He threw 7.1 innings of 3-hit ball, while fanning 10 and giving up 2 walks. Eric Bennett locked down his 1st save.

The Rum Runners had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Lake Monsters going into the bottom of the sixth inning. That changed quickly when the former first round draft pick Kelly Atkinson came to the plate. Atkinson hit a run-scoring double on a 1-1 changeup from Orlando hurler Brent Pugh. It was Atkinson's 18th double of the year.

Atkinson told the media after that game that the mood in the clubhouse is "extremely positive" after a win like that.
