Border Jumpers Best Ridge Raptors in Pitching Duel
|
2070 is shaping up to be a forgettable year for the Redstone Ridge Raptors.
The Laredo Border Jumpers eked out a 2-1 win versus the Redstone Ridge Raptors at BackWet Stadium. Nobody did more than pitcher Peyton Jones. He was terrific. Jones went 7 innings to notch the win. He scattered 7 hits, walked 2, and struck out 6. His record improves to 3-1.
Nelson Martínez drew 1 walk in 3 plate appearances for Laredo. The 31-year old first baseman had a key at-bat in the bottom of the sixth. With one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 1-1 tie with a run-scoring walk off Chris Brown. It was his 17th walk of the season.
"We'll sip on a cold one and savor this win," said Jones.
Laredo, at 74-55, is 2½ games up in the Frontier Southern.
