Chicken Haulers Come Up Short at Washington, 8-7
|
The Washington Monuments did just enough to sneak past the Amarillo Chicken Haulers, 8-7, at The Grand Lodge. Washington pitcher José Féliz, in particular, had a standout performance. Brandon Holcomb closed the game out for Washington, earning his 40th save. The third-place Monuments have won 5 straight games.
Had Bernard Ellison not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Ellison hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 8-7, in favor of the Monuments.
"I believe in our guys," said Washington skipper Ed Malloy. "I like the energy they're playing with."
