Cheesesteaks Waste Great Game from Baker
|
Despite a great performance by Philadelphia center fielder Steve Baker, the San Jose Cuervo defeated the Cheesesteaks by the score of 8-6 at William Penn Park. Baker hit 2 home runs, while scoring 3 times and driving in 3. The win belonged to Boyd Mercer in relief. His record improves to 11-6. Leonard Johnston took the loss for Philadelphia. Iván Ruíz was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 30 of 31 save opportunities.
Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for Rafael Colchado? The San Jose third baseman had a 2-run double in the top of the ninth inning to put the Cuervo on top, 8-6. For the game, Colchado had 1 double and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"We took advantage of our opportunities," Colchado told the San Jose Times. "It's as simple as that."
San Jose now has a record of 73-59 with the win.
