Comrades Rally to Nose Past Iowa

The Havana Comrades picked up a win at The Cornfield, downing the Iowa Crop Circles, 6-5. On the mound for Havana was left-hander YaKov Blumpkin, who played a pivotal role in the win. Havana reliever Octávio Pérez picked up the win, upping his record to 5-4. Alberto Cota absorbed the loss. Richard Carpenter notched his 35th save in 41 chances.
The game was at a stalemate until designated hitter Ralph McPherson came to bat in the top of the ninth. Facing Iowa pitcher Alberto Cota, he hit a 1-0 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Havana on top, 6-5.
"The key at this level is throwing strike one," said Blumpkin. "Successful pitchers do it."
With the win, the Comrades have a record of 69-62.
