Baker, Cheesesteaks March to 13-4 Victory
|
The Philadelphia Cheesesteaks topped the San Jose Cuervo, 13-4, in Frontier action at William Penn Park. The game was highlighted by the performance of Philadelphia center fielder Steve Baker. Doug Benson earned the win for Philadelphia. He lasted 5.2 innings, allowing 3 runs on 6 hits, while striking out 7. With the win, he raised his record to 8-7. The win puts Philadelphia at 76-58 this season.
Artie Martin had a big bases-clearing double for the Cheesesteaks in the bottom of the third inning. With Philadelphia leading 2-0 and the bases loaded, he got a sinker from 26-year old right-handed pitcher Gene Dudley and swatted a double to center. It was his 39th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Cheesesteaks ahead, 5-0.
"Bad day," San Jose manager said. "New day tomorrow."
