Storm Pull Out Late-Game Win, 3-2
|
The Minneapolis Maulers got a superb performance from pitcher Mike Kern, but the West Island Storm still won the game, 3-2. Kern threw 7.0 innings of 2-hit ball. West Island reliever Tim Barnes picked up the win, upping his record to 2-3. Victor Shelton took the loss. Vincent Curtis collected his 22nd save.
West Island needed the clutch hitting of Sergio López to seal the deal. The second baseman swatted a 2-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Storm on top, 3-2. For the game, López had 1 home run and 1 single in 3 at-bats.
"The other side played a good game," said Minneapolis manager . "You tip your cap to them."
The win has West Island at 51-83.
