Washington Makes It 12 Straight with 4-3 Win
|
The Vermont Lake Monsters got a superb performance from pitcher Javier García, but the Washington Monuments still won the game, 4-3. García threw 8.0 innings of 5-hit ball. Brandon Holcomb came out of the bullpen to earn the win. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 3 innings. His record now stands at 5-5. The third-place Monuments have won 12 in a row.
Washington won the game in the bottom of the 12th inning. With two outs and John Hill on the mound for Vermont, left fielder Chris Duncan hit a dramatic solo home run, bringing Monuments fans to their feet.
"It was a test of wills," said Ed Malloy, the Washington skipper. "I'm glad we came out of it with a win."
