Mashers Get Close Win Over Burn, 5-4
|
The Crab Apple Cove Mashers took Death Valley pitcher Roberto Nevárez's best shot and still were able to claim a win at The Burn Yard. The final score had Crab Apple Cove getting past the Burn, 5-4. Nevárez went 7.1 innings and allowed 3 runs, striking out 8. Joaquín Moreno, 3-5, earned the win in relief. He allowed no runs on 1 hit in 3 innings. The Mashers raised their record to 58-79.
Crab Apple Cove relied on the hitting of Ralph McPherson to pick up the win. The right fielder clubbed a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Mashers on top, 5-4. For the game, McPherson had 1 home run and 1 single in 5 at-bats.
In postgame remarks, McPherson said: "To all who've been doubting my effort -- I hope they saw this game."
