Lake Monsters Come Back Late to Top Coyotes, 5-2
|
The Vermont Lake Monsters picked up a win at Welsh Field, knocking off the Keg Creek Coyotes, 5-2. Starting pitcher Hoyt Murphy played a key role in the triumph. Murphy went the distance for Vermont. He gave up 2 runs on 4 hits. The Lake Monsters lead the Appalachian Northern by 18 games.
Ed Greer was the walk-off hero for Vermont. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Lake Monsters third baseman hit a dramatic 3-run home run to send the teams home.
Murphy called winning a team effort. "It's not the same guy every time," he said. "It's the sum of the parts."
