Ward goes 4-for-5 in Mashers Win
The Crab Apple Cove Mashers downed the Philadelphia Cheesesteaks, 9-3. The hitting star was catcher Joe Ward. Ward went 4 for 5 with a double and 3 singles, while scoring 2 and driving in 3 for the Mashers. The victory gives Crab Apple Cove a record of 75-66.

The Cheesesteaks had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Mashers going into the top of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the slick-fielding second baseman Rich Allen came to the plate. Allen hit a 2-run triple on a 1-2 curveball from Philadelphia hurler Doug Benson. It was Allen's 2nd triple of the year.

In postgame comments to the Crab Apple Cove Bulletin, Allen said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
