Chicken Haulers Use Late Score to Top Ravens, 5-4
|
The Amarillo Chicken Haulers beat the Richmond Ravens, 5-4, in part because of second baseman Lee Jones. He was 3 for 4 with 2 doubles. He scored 2 runs. Victor West picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 7-0. Peter Wright, who is tied for 4th in the AP in holds with 11, was tagged with the loss. The win elevated the Chicken Haulers to 72-69.
Had Matt Gonzáles not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Gonzáles hit a 2-run single. That made the score 5-4, in favor of the Chicken Haulers.
Gonzáles told a Amarillo Times reporter that he was "satisfied" with the win.
