Monuments Suffer 6-4 Home Loss
|
Baseball fans saw a good contest between the West Island Storm and Washington Monuments.
The West Island Storm weathered a fine game by Washington first baseman Leslie Small to upend the Monuments, 6-4, at The Grand Lodge. Small went 2-4 with a home run and a double, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Lee Costa, the winner, improved to 13-9. He held the Monuments to 3 runs on 6 hits over 6 innings, while striking out 3 and walking 5. Earning his 33rd save for West Island was Juan Marino.
West Island used a well-timed hit by Hisashi Yoshikawa to capture the win. The catcher socked a 2-run double in the top of the sixth inning to put the Storm ahead, 5-3. Though it was his only hit in 3 at-bats, it was important.
"Enjoyed this one," Yoshikawa told the West Island Daily News. "But it's back to work tomorrow."
The Storm now own a record of 88-54.
