Storm Score Late to Win, 4-2
|
Hot Box was the site of a competitive game between the Washington Monuments and West Island Storm.
The Washington Monuments could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Terry Pinnell into a win. Instead, the West Island Storm prevailed, 4-2. Pinnell threw 6.0 innings of shutout ball. The win went to Luis León in relief. His record improves to 3-4. Mark Cunningham took the loss. Earning his 24th save of the year was Vincent Curtis.
Ken Wells, who is tied for 10th in the AP with a .833 OPS, chipped in a 2-run home run for West Island in the bottom of the eighth. For the game, the first baseman had 2 hits in 4 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 1 run scored, and 2 RBI.
"It's a good day to be a fan after a win like that," Wells told the West Island Citizen.
The last-place Storm improved to 56-87.
