The Newark Falcons trumped the Minneapolis Maulers, 8-7, at MacLaren Stadium. Newark third baseman Pedro López was terrific. He was 3 for 5 with a double, 2 singles, and a walk. He scored 2 runs. Leo Porter earned the win in relief. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 3 innings. He upped his record to 5-9. Newark has run its win streak to 6 consecutive.

The game was at a stalemate until designated hitter Erwin Lawrence came to bat in the top of the 12th. Facing Minneapolis pitcher George McCreehy, he hit a first pitch screwball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Newark on top, 8-7.

"This game tested our mettle," said López.
