Outlaws Lose at Home, 7-5
|
Pete Carter was a vital contributor to the 7-5 Amarillo victory over Ozark. The Chicken Haulers left fielder was 3 for 4 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Alfredo Villarreal, the winning pitcher, improved to 11-7. He pitched 5.2 innings, giving up 7 hits and 1 run, while striking out 3 and walking 0. Picking up the save was 33-year old left-handed pitcher Leroy Welch.
Randall Thomas had a big 2-run home run for the Chicken Haulers in the top of the seventh inning. With Amarillo leading 4-1 and a runner on 1st, he sized up a cutter from 31-year old right-handed pitcher Tomás Leyra and punished it. The result was his 1st home run of the season, which put the Chicken Haulers on top, 6-1.
"Just trying to keep things simple and helping the team win any way I can," Carter told a local reporter after the game.
The 'W' lifts Amarillo's record to 71-85.
