Washington Gets 5-1 Win
|
Washington used a superb performance from starting pitcher Kunitaro Watanabe to down the Newark Falcons, 5-1. Yasushi Inoue earned the win after being called from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 3.1 innings. He upped his record to 1-0. Newark, at 55-104, has lost 5 straight.
Washington took a 3-1 lead on José Quiñones's 3rd triple of the season. The 2-run triple, which Quiñones hit in the top of the seventh, left Newark pitcher Jim Reed visibly frustrated.
"Whenever we hold the other team to one run," said Monuments manager Ed Malloy, "I like our chances."
