The inspired effort of Philadelphia shortstop Dave McDonald was not enough to prevent a loss, 4-3, to the Mexico City Diablos. McDonald went 3 for 5 with a double and 2 singles, while scoring 2 times. Mexico City pitcher Troy Smith earned the win, hiking his record to 1-1. Beetlejuice Bettlejuice suffered the loss. Leroy Welch recorded the save for Mexico City, his 6th of the season.
Bill Hayes, who is tied for 9th in the FR in extra base hits with 10, had a direct impact on the outcome. Hayes contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the sixth inning to put Mexico City up, 4-2.
"We did enough to win," said Hayes.
With the loss, Philadelphia sinks to 12-9.
