Vermont Tacks 4-1 Loss on Washington

The Vermont Lake Monsters beat the Washington Monuments, 4-1, at The Grand Lodge. Starting pitcher Pedro Burgos was a big reason why. He held his opponent in check all game. Jim Arnold finished the game for Vermont and earned his 5th save. Despite the win, Vermont, now 6-16, is off to a terrible start.
Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for Ernesto Mercado? The Vermont center fielder had a 2-run double in the top of the first inning to put the Lake Monsters on top, 3-0. For the game, Mercado had 1 double and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"Good pitching, clutch hitting," said Vermont skipper Kevin Tucker. "I can't complain."
