Chicken Haulers Come Up Short at Atlantic City, 2-1
|
The Atlantic City Aces had to overcome a fine effort from Amarillo pitcher Fernando Hernández to grab a narrow 2-1 win at Trump Stadium. Hernández went 7 innings and allowed 2 runs. Cory Clark, the winning pitcher, improved to 2-2. He pitched 7 innings, giving up 7 hits and 1 run, while striking out 4 and walking 3. The Aces, with only their 5th win in 24 games, have not had much to write home about in 2070.
Robert Lee dealt the Chicken Haulers a blow in the bottom of the third. Batting with a runner on 2nd and Atlantic City leading 1-0, Lee, who finished 4th in the AP in RBI with 131 in 2061, hit a 0-2 changeup for a run-scoring single.
"Bottom line," said Amarillo skipper James Walker, "we didn't play well enough to win."
