Ice Pirates Upend Border Jumpers, 6-4
|
Laredo got a terrific game from first baseman Gerardo Maldonado. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to Glacier Bay, 6-4. Maldonado was 3 for 3 with a triple, a double, and 2 walks. The winning pitcher was Loren Sanders. His record now stands at 3-2. The right-hander went 6.1 innings, allowing 1 run on 6 hits for the Ice Pirates. The win brings the Ice Pirates to 15-11, a promising start as the team looks to return to the playoffs.
Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Christian Ward? The 27-year old first baseman Ward stroked a 2-run single in the top of the eighth inning to put Glacier Bay up, 6-1. For the game, he was 2 for 4, including 1 double and 1 single.
"We'll pop the top on a cold beverage and get back to work tomorrow," Ward said.
