Philadelphia got a valiant performance from pitcher Tony Villamán, but it wasn't enough to beat the Iowa Crop Circles. Iowa won the game, 4-3. Villamán threw 7.0 innings allowing 1 runs for the losing team. Iowa reliever Naofumi Hayagawa was the winner. His record is now 1-0. Ernest Reese took the loss. The win gives Iowa a record of 2-2.

Iowa used the timely hitting of Víctor Martínez to seize the win. The pinch hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the tenth inning to put the Crop Circles on top, 4-3. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.

"I've been criticized for being a slacker, but the one thing I do care about is winning," Martínez told the Iowa Gazette.
