Lake Monsters Handle Ice Pirates, 6-4
|
The Vermont Lake Monsters trumped the Glacier Bay Ice Pirates, 6-4, at Welsh Field. Vermont right fielder Joe Ward was terrific. He was 1 for 3 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3. The winning pitcher was Joe Charles. He tossed 105 pitches over 6.1 innings, allowing 4 runs on 1 hit. Vermont leads the Appalachian Northern by 3 games.
Ward had a key at-bat for Vermont early in the game. With runners on 1st and 2nd, he hit a 3-run home run. It was his 10th home run of the season and gave Vermont an early 3-0 lead.
"Being able to play a game for a living is one thing. Being able to play it well and contribute to a win is even better," Ward told the Vermont Observer.
