Coyotes Drop Rum Runners, 5-4
|
The Keg Creek Coyotes weathered an outstanding game by Orlando second baseman Mike Allen to topple the Rum Runners, 5-4. Allen was 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2. The win belongs to Gene Jones in relief. His record improves to 2-0. Chris Clark took the loss for Orlando. Júlio Ortíz earned the save, his 14th, for the Coyotes.
Keg Creek used a clutch hit from Tom Day to get the win. The right fielder drilled a 2-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to put the Coyotes ahead, 4-2. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"I'm just trying to make good contact," said Day, "one at-bat at a time."
Keg Creek currently is in third place in the Appalachian Northern at 24-28.
