The Reading Railbirds got a superb performance from pitcher Connor Kelloway. Still, it wasn't enough to beat San Jose. The Cuervo won the game, 9-3. Kelloway threw 7.0 innings of 3-hit ball. Martín García, 1-1, earned the win in relief. He allowed no runs on 2 hits in 3.2 innings. Reading falls to 5-2.
San Jose used a clutch hit from Victor Baird to get the win. The left fielder drilled a grand slam home run in the top of the tenth inning to put the Cuervo ahead, 7-3. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a doozy.
"Good baseball players make you a smarter manager," said San Jose manager Brandon Kirk.
