Iowa registered a win at The Cornfield by beating the Reading Railbirds, 4-3. Pitcher Sean Springfield was one reason why the Crop Circles triumphed. In 7.1 innings, Springfield surrendered 6 hits, while striking out 4 and walking 1. He allowed 2 runs. Roberto Mendoza notched his 11th save of the season.

Clyde Ashe had a big 2-run home run for the Crop Circles in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Iowa leading 2-0 and a runner on 2nd, he sized up a fastball from Connor Kelloway, who is tied for 9th in the FR with a 10.0 K/9 rate, and punished it. The result was his 9th home run of the season, which put the Crop Circles on top, 4-0.

"I'm happy we won," said Springfield. "That's first and foremost. My goal is for the team to win the day I pitch, however it's done."

Iowa is now 25-34.
