Vargas Field hosted an old-fashioned pitchers' duel.
In a well-pitched game between the Crab Apple Cove Mashers and the Death Valley Burn, pitcher Omar Cardenas was fantastic. The Crab Apple Cove right-hander helped his team secure the win, 1-0. Ernesto Moreno recorded his 9th save for Crab Apple Cove.
Cardenas, a native of San Pedro de Macorís, Dominican Republic, was dealing all game. He kept Death Valley hitters off-balance, while giving the Mashers 7 quality innings. Cardenas threw 104 pitches, allowing 1 hit and striking out 10.
"For the most part, I stayed out of the middle of the plate," Cardenas said.
The victory gives Crab Apple Cove a record of 33-28.
